Where My Story Meets Yours
I’m Maaike — a half-Swiss, half-Dutch mountain junkie who never met a sunrise I didn’t love.
My camera and I have been inseparable since I was a kid, back when I’d burn through rolls of film taking entirely too many cat pictures. (Sorry, Mom and Dad…)
Before I started Maaike Jansen Photography, I worked for 15+ years as an event manager, organizing everything from rock concerts to world-class sports events.
It taught me how to juggle a million details, keep calm under pressure, and always find the best angles — on stage and off.
Now, I bring that same level of care and planning to every photoshoot I create. Whether it’s crafting your multi-day elopement adventure or scouting the perfect trail for your sunset portrait session, I’m here to make sure everything runs seamlessly so you can just live it.
The mountains have been my happy place since I was two months old, bundled in a sleeping bag during a thunderstorm at 2,000 meters. They’ve healed me, challenged me, and taught me the beauty of being small in a giant world.
Now, I share that love with you — because I believe your most important moments deserve backdrops that take your breath away.
Plus, I eloped too
Yep — I walked the non-traditional path myself. My husband and I chose an intimate wedding with just a handful of our favorite humans, out in nature where it felt like us. No complicated timelines, no 200-person guest list judging our dessert choices. Just love, nature, and a day that felt peaceful, intentional, and deeply personal.

How I Work
When you hire me, you’re not just getting a photographer. You’re getting a guide, a cheerleader, a co-conspirator for your big (or small) adventure. I’ll scout hidden trails, help you plan the perfect timing for magical light, and keep the vibes relaxed and fun.
There’s no stiff posing here. I’ll give you gentle prompts, but mostly I’ll help you forget there’s even a camera. You’ll just be soaking up epic views, laughing together, and living your best day. And when it’s over, you’ll have photos that feel like pure magic—the kind you’ll want to frame, share, and revisit again and again.
Whether we’re hiking to a 3,000-meter summit for sunrise vows or wandering through wildflowers for a portrait session, I’m here to make sure your experience is stress-free, memorable, and uniquely yours.

‣ I’m married to a tall Danish Viking who’s my best friend and partner-in-crime (we also chose a non-traditional wedding).
‣ I’m obsessed with sunrises on mountain peaks…and sunsets too. Basically, if the sky’s glowing, I’m there.
‣ I love spicy food, rock music festivals, and tea spiked with rum.
‣ I used to have a pack of sled dogs (Siberian huskies/Greenland dog).
‣ I speak French, Dutch, English, and a little German—and I’ll teach you Swiss mountain slang if you ask nicely.
‣ People tell me they feel like they’ve known me forever. (And I’ll probably cry happy tears when you do your vows.)
